In the heart of February when we just want the snow to melt away and feel sunkissed by warmth, sometimes you need something to keep you going for the next couple months of frigid temperatures.
Take the kids, a friend, loved one, or just meander by yourself. Let’s embrace the snow and fall in love with New England all over again.
Occom Pond Party. Saturday, February 8, 2020. 12- 3 pm. This is sure to become a new family tradition once you try it. Kids and families will love all the activities: roast marshmallows, build snow and ice sculptures, bowl, and of course take part in the epic sofa race! Kids can go sledding or tubing down a little hill, ice fish, ice skate, eat sugar on snow and more. There’s even music and a parade! Thank you Hanover Park and Rec for this amazing FREE event. There are buses at Maynard and Dewey Lots to shuttle you to the fun.
Igloo Build Saturday, February 15th, 2020 at 10:30 am – 2 pm. Families fill the snowy field at the Montshire building igloos. Dr. Bert Yankielun, an engineer and author of a book on igloo building, will lead demonstrations on how to build a sturdy igloo. Join in on this popular event and also take part in snow shoeing on the trails or working with ice in the science lab inside. This event is free with admission, which is $13-16 per person.
Mascoma Lake Winter WingDing. Saturday, February 15th, 2020. 12-4 pm at Lakeside Park in Enfield. Bring your skates and skis and enjoy the ice for ice skating and cross country skiing. Build a snowman, see a fat bike demonstration, try your skills at broomball, sip some hot cocoa and chili around the fire pit, and even try kite wings (like windsurfing on ice).
Woodstock Snow Flurry. Friday – Sunday, Feb. 14-16 2020. Be in awe by professional snow sculptures on the green in Woodstock. The sculptures work all weekend and the winner is announced on Sunday. Viewing is free. The public gets to vote on the People’s Choice for favorite sculpture too.
Dartmouth Winter Carnival. February 6-9th, 2020. This is THE winter festival in the area. Each year has a fun theme and the Dartmouth students go all out to bring fun into February. Festival goers can enjoy a weekend of fun filled spectator events. Pick a favorite ice sculpture. Cheer on a team in broom hockey. Be glad you’re warm and dry as students take the polar bear plunge Occom Pond. There are skiing relays, and slaloms, human dogsled races, concerts, and more.
