If you’re looking for a product that celebrates what makes us truly special, you’ve come to the right place.
Vermont Spirits started in 1999 to create product that represented the region. This was how their first product, VT Gold Vodka, was made (I just love that name); it is made entirely from maple syrup.
Made with Local Ingredients
When you try Vermont Spirits, you’re truly getting a taste of Vermont. All of their products are made from local ingredients:
- Their Black Snake Whiskey is made from VT corn.
- Their No. 14 Apple Brandy and crimson vodka are made with local apples
- Their gin is from wild juniper berries
- Their white vodka is made from whey from VT cow’s milk
- Their bourbon is made with VT maple syrup

An Educational and Fun Experience
At Vermont Spirits, you get to talk to the experts, the people who work with the product day and day out.
I talked with Mike Copp, the manager, and Harry Gorman, the distiller. From them I learned how their product is made. I also learned fun facts like where the term proof came from: hint has to do with sailors and sea captains.

While you’re there make sure to do their free tasting.
I think my favorite was Old Barrel Cocktail, a whisky with cranberries, honey, and cider. I could just sip it and enjoy: so smooth, flavorful, and relaxing. This really surprised me because I traditionally do not like the taste of alcohol and need a lot of flavor to mask it, but this was perfect just as it was. Wow!
I also tried the sharp Maple Bourbon with a lovely maple endnote, and the crisp VT Gold Vodka. It was fun to talk with Mike about the products and experience them firsthand.
Take in the whole store, which has a rustic modern decor, and relax.

Proud to be a Part of the Upper Valley

From talking with Mike, I really got the feeling that Vermont Spirits is really proud to be a part of this community. Their vision started with creating a product that represented the area and are known for their innovation, even winning awards from Russia, who voted Vermont Spirits their favorite American vodka. Wow! High praise from a country known for its vodka.
They support the local community as well. In the store you’ll find unique and fun products from local artisans. A local quilter makes those cool cozies you put in the microwave so you can take out your dish without burning your hands.

Another artist has lights made with recycled material which look so pretty (on the left) and on the right are cute little plant holders!

Looking for a gift for the man on your list? How about a hand forged bottle opener from a local black smith? They have that too!
