Okay so we do a lot of walking in our house, so there’s a lot of our favorite walks on this list, but it’s an excellent way to social distance if you pick a trail less traveled by, I have my favorites here.
Quechee:
Mini Day Trip 1:
See the Alpacas. Drive to the visitor’s center and walk the trail down to the gorge and enjoy the view. Take the trail back up under the overpass and up the stairs to the left to the dam. Have a picnic on the way back.
Mini Day Trip 2:
Explore VINS. See the birds, walk the trails, and enjoy the amazing canopy walk. Picnic on one of the pavilion picnic areas. Masks are required and the canopy walk has one way traffic to help with social distancing.
Lebanon:
Mini Day Trip 1:
Walk the Goodwin exercise trails, play in the water, skip rocks, picnic on the bridge at the entrance. Follow the brook to the waterfall for a beautiful view or use the Meriden Rd. entrance to get to the waterfall.
Mini Day Trip 2:
Walk Chamber Memorial Reserve and then drive a few streets over to S. Esker Trails.
Mini DayTrip 3:
Fore- U golf and ice cream. Trip details.
Hang out and cool off at True’s Ledges.
For an extended trip add a Plainfield day trip.
Plainfield:
Mini-Day Trip 1:
Hike French’s Ledges and have a picnic at the top.
Have a maple creamer at Mac’s Maple after.
Cornish:
Mini Day Trip 1:
Trails and picnic at St. Gaudens (mansion closed)
Longer day trip option add Windsor a mini-day trip.
Windsor:
Mini Day Trip 1:
Walk in Path of Life Garden and have a picnic on a blanket.
Hanover:
Mini Day Trip 1:
Hike up Balch Hill and have a picnic or walk around Pine Park. On the way back play eye spy and walk around the green. Bubbles on the green? It’s so massive, 6 feet is easily maintained.

Norwich:
Mini Day Trip 1:
Take the short trail to the field on the side of the King Arthur parking lot. Kick a ball in the field or head over to the Norwich green and play lawn games there. Have fun on the playground if you’re comfortable. After check out the Splash Park at the Montshire. Reserve a spot in the morning or afternoon.
Woodstock:
Mini Day Trip 1:
Playground fun at the elementary school off the green. Take a walk on the Marsh Billings Rockefeller National Historic Park (mansion closed).
Lyme:
Mini-DayTrip 1:
Playground fun at Lyme Elementary. Then follow past the playground to the field, and to the far left for a little mini hike on Lower Grant Brook Trail. Have a snack at the bottom.
Bradford:
Mini Day Trip 1:
Go to Elizabeth Park Playground, grill have lunch under shady trees. Have dramatic performers in the family? Put on a little show or play some music There’s theatre type seating.
Newbury:
See the lake as you walk the trails at the Fells. Then drive 10 min over to the other side and go the beach. You need to reserve a spot to ensure parking.
Grantham:
Mini Day Trip 1:
Walk the trail at Brookside park, play in the water, and have a picnic. This is on my must do list this summer.
